Baby Sutton has arrived!

He's here, he's FINALLY here! Here's my labor story:)

I woke up Saturday morning feeling exceptionally well. I called my mom, as I do every morning when I wake up, and we were joking that maybe this was the calm before the storm. I say joking because my mom was in Houston at my aunts wedding and this day was the ONLY day that she couldn't, absolutely couldn't, be here in Colorado for Sutton's birth. After we got off the phone, Ryan, Ford and I got in the car for a day of running errands. After we got home from shopping all day, I decided to go and get a mani/pedi...just in case! I had my lady rub all the right spots and rub extra long. I truly believe that the mani/pedi I got 6 hours before I went in to labor with Ford made all the difference, so I was happy to pay for extra massage, haha! I got home around 5pm and was having a really weird feeling deep in my core. Ryan and I figured it was nothing and we continued our routine of dinner and putting Ford to bed. At 6pm, we decided I should time these feelings and sure enough, they were 10 minutes apart. I hopped in the tub just to see if it was the real deal and called the doctor in the meantime. She said to come to the hospital when the contractions got to be about 7 minutes apart. So we did....BUT, false alarm! I got to the hospital and I was still at a 4, 50% effaced and baby was at a 0 station. We opted to go home and sleep in our own bed and wait it out.

I contracted all night long and woke up to them still being 10 minutes apart. My mom had decided to fly straight from Houston and we wanted to get the basement ready before we had to pick her up at 11:30am. Gradually, my contractions got more intense and came quicker and quicker. When the time came to go pick up my mom, my contactions were about 5 minutes apart and they were INTENSE. We sent her a text to take a cab because the airport was an hour in the opposite direction.

My mom arrived at our house around 12:30pm, dropped her luggage off in the foyer, and the 3 of us hopped in the car. Sweet Ford was napping soundly in his room and our wonderful babysitter Kailyn was there to watch him.

I got examined in triage at 1pm. I was 100% effaced and at a 5, so off to a real room I went. I immediately asked for my epidural (bring on the drugs!) but, lo and behold, it DIDN'T work! Go figure, the darn thing didn't work with Ford, I don't know why I thought it would work this time.

At 3:18pm, the doctor came in to break my water because I was at an 8 now. And, let's face it, she probably wanted to be home to her family in time for dinner:) She left my room saying, "it might take 60, 90 minutes, but he'll be here soon, don't worry." I just don't think she knew how soon "soon" would actually be. She'd been gone from my room for 2 minutes when I quickly progressed from an 8 to a 10 and my nurse could see the head. Craziness ensued as the nurse couldn't break down my bed fast enough and call the doctor at the same time and even hear herself think over all the screaming I was doing. My mom and Ryan were both yelling at me to "PUSH" but I couldn't push, all I could do was scream. The pain, oh...the pain. It was NOT fun! The doctor raced in my room saying "don't push, I need to put my gloves on!" She almost didn't make it. I had 3 more contractions and BAM, Sutton was here at 3:32pm.

We are all home now and things are going AMAZINGLY well. Ford is doing great, Ryan and I don't have bags under our eyes like we did last time, and Sutton is a champion nurser, much to our surprise.

So, here's a pic of our lil sweetie! Hopefully, I find time to keep up this blog!
